FAQs

Where can I safely store the generator?
The generator should always be stored in a cool dry area with the ventilation openings free from any obstructions.

Where is it recommended to operate the generator?
The generator should be placed outdoors a least 5 ft in all directions from any flammable material, and at least 20 ft from any windows or doors. The generator should also be placed in a dry weather protected area.

How do you safely transport a generator?
To safely transport the generator the generator should be emptied of all gasoline prior to transport, and the generators spark plug should be disconnected. Please note do not obstruct any ventilation openings and keep the generator in a cool dry area during transport.

Do alternative fuels to gasoline like propane or natural gas produce CO?
Yes, anytime any fuel is burned even alternative fuels like propane or natural gas, the CO fumes will be produced, and the generator should always be running outdoors 20 ft from any windows or doors for safety.

Can the generator be operated directly in rain or snow?
No, the generator shouldn’t ever be operated directly in the rain or snow without some type of overhead protection to keep it protected from the elements. Please note that there are multiple generator weather protection options including running generator tents that can be used to keep the generator dry during a rain or snow storm.

Setup/Startup:

How to remove the generator shipping braces?
Step 1- lay a large piece of foam from the generator packaging on a level surface. Step 2- Flip the generator upside down onto the foam piece. Step 3- Remove the brightly colored shipping braces located on the bottom of the generator. Please note that the shipping braces should always be removed before any operation of the generator to avoid engine damage. Please also note that the generator should never be filled with any oil or gasoline prior to removing shipping braces

How do you connect the generator battery?
When the generator is first received the battery will have a disconnected negative lead to avoid the battery losing charge while in storage. The disconnected negative lead will be located above and behind the battery location, take the disconnected end of the negative lead and bolt this to the negative battery post. Please note to be careful not to allow your tool or any other conductive object touch the battery post and generator frame at the same time.

What type of oil should I use in my generator?
If this is your first time using the generator you should use a conventional 30W, 10W-30, or 5W-30 oil to help break the product in for the first 6-8 hours. After the product has been broken in you can use either a synthetic or conventional oil depending on preference in either 30W, 10W-30, or 5W-30 depending on your climate. 10W30 will be sufficient for most temperatures, however if ambient temperatures exceed 95°F you should use 10W40.

How do you start the generator using the recoil start?
The first step to starting the generator using the recoil start will be to turn the circuit breaker and idle control feature to the “OFF” position. The second step will depend on the fuel used, if using gasoline turn the gasoline valve “ON”, and the fuel selector switch to the gasoline selection (if applicable for the generator model); if your using propane turn the gasoline valve “OFF” and move the fuel selector switch toward the propane selection (if applicable for the generator model), then connect your propane tank and turn the propane tank to the “ON” position; after the proper instructions are followed with starting on the desired fuel, move the battery switch to the “ON” position or if applicable move the start switch to the “RUN” or “ON” position depending on the generator model version. Finally, pull the recoil out slowly until tension is felt, then yank the recoil cord to start the generator; repeat this final step as necessary until the engine starts.

What type of gasoline should be used in the generator?
The generator will be compatible with 87 Octane gasoline or better with a 10% or less ethanol cut. Please note that the lower the ethanol content the more this can extend the life of your generator and parts.

Maintenance:

How to change the generator oil?
The first step will be to place the generator on a level surface before starting the oil change, then you’ll want to locate the generator drain bolt, which will be located on the center of the bottom protruding crankcase lip and place a container below the oil drain bolt location. The next step is to remove the drain bolt with a 12 mm hex wrench and allow the oil to fully drain. Finally, replace the oil drain bolt and remove the main oil fill cap, then add oil until you see the oil on the oil cap threading. Please note that as long as you fill the oil on a level surface, then the generator is built to spill out the excess oil before it can be overfilled.

How to empty gasoline from your gas tank?
To remove the gasoline from the generator the first step will be to turn the fuel valve to the “OFF” position, and you’ll want to place a container under the fuel filter cup located on the bottom of the fuel valve, then remove the fuel filter cup and turn the fuel valve to the “ON” position to allow the gasoline to drain from the gas tank. Once fully drained replace the fuel filter cup and the draining process is complete.

How to prepare your generator for storage?
To properly prepare the generator for storage first turn the breaker “OFF” and run the generator for 3-5 minutes; then turn the fuel valve to the “OFF” position and allow the generator to run until it stalls out. The next step will be to turn the battery switch, or engine switch depending on model to the “OFF” position, then remove the fuel filter cup, and drain the gas tank of all gasoline by turning the fuel valve to the “ON” position. The next step will be to remove the 2nd to the lowest bolt on the bottom of the carburetor bowl to remove any excess fuel from the carburetor bowl, and remove the spark plug; then add 2 tablespoons of 10W-30 oil into the spark plug hole and pull the recoil to help lubricate the cylinder. Finally, replace the spark plug, and remove the battery, then charge the battery on a trickle charger. Please note that the generator should always be stored in a cool dry location that’s protected from the elements and properly ventilated.

How to properly maintain your generator battery?
The generator battery can lose charge in as little as 3 to 6 months of storage and should always be properly maintained. To properly maintain your generator battery we’d recommend disconnecting the generator battery from your generator and hooking the battery up to any 12V trickle charger that’s compatible with SLA batteries. Please note that extremely cold or hot conditions can accelerate the rate the battery loses charge.

How frequent should I perform maintenance on my generator?
The maintenance can vary depending on the model and whether you’re running the generator with light or heavy use. To properly follow maintenance please ensure that you read you full maintenance schedule on your included generator manual and it’s recommended to keep track of your hours and maintenance performed in your manual maintenance log.
